Shop around – that’s really the best advice there is. Many airports will have a choice of car rental companies working from there and they are all after your business. Don’t just go with the first car rental firm you find, check online at the prices and special offers available at your destination airport and go from there.
Take special notice of extra charges and insurance. The majority of rental cars will have insurance included but you may want to pay extra for windshield cover, road side assistance etc. The cheapest car rental won’t necessarily offer you the best value for money.
You also need to take into account the fuel charges. Some car rental companies will charge you for a full tank of gas which must be refilled before you return the motor at the end of your vacation. Others will simply charge you for the tank of gas and you are permitted to bring it back empty. Make sure that you know the type of charges you are dealing with before you drive off in your rental car.
Choose your car carefully – the majority of car rental companies have different classes of car – smaller cars are generally cheaper but you may need a large station wagon if there are a number of people traveling together.
Remember that won’t only need to have plenty of space for the passengers but also for their luggage. A car which has adequate space for five people may not have enough room for five adults with a large suitcase each.
